As the long nights draw in, we’ve sourced a programme of inspiring talks, exhibitions and seasonal events to lift your spirits.

1. AA XX 100

This year the Architectural Association celebrates 100 years of women with AA XX 100. To mark the occasion the school is hosting a major conference with discussions, distinguished keynotes, building visits and walking tours. The conference will accompany a new book and exhibition that explore the history and legacy of AA women and their work. Information on the book and exhibition can be found here. The conference runs from the 2-4 November. Book your tickets.

2. An Eye for Colour

Following The Modern House’s recent sale of Bernat Klein’s home in the Scottish Borders, Margaret Howell has opened an exhibition of paintings by the artist and textile designer. Klein’s work was defined by his passion for colour and this is the first time his private collection of canvases will be shown outside of his home. The exhibition is being held at the Margaret Howell shop on Wigmore Street and runs until 19 November. Find out more.

3. New Romantic
Embrace the romanticism of the Yorkshire Sculpture Park in the bleak winter months. Set within 500 acres of historic parkland, the open-air collection presents sculptures and installations by artists including Richard Long, Lynn Chadwick, Joan Miro, Henry Moore and Ai Weiwei. The park remains open all year round and recently opened a new solo exhibition of work by the poetic and politically engaged artist, Alfredo Jaar.
Plan your visit.

4. Design for Living
The Twentieth Century Society launch their long-awaited autumn lecture series, ‘Design for Living’. The fascinating series will unpack the key themes of their recent book, ‘100 Years 100 Houses’, with a programme of talks by Elain Harwood, Alan Powers, Piers Gough and others.

5. Festive Greetings

As we approach the festive season, we’ll be heading to the David Chipperfield-designed Hepworth Wakefield gallery for their annual Christmas market. Working with independent makers from across the UK, the gallery is transformed with select crafts and local produce between 24-26 November. Find out more.
